Social well-being is reflected in different dimensions of a population’s life, such as access to education, health, food, housing, and consumer goods, among other essential aspects. Measuring it represents a challenge, as it is a complex concept that combines economic, social, and cultural factors.
However, there are indicators and methodologies that allow for the evaluation and comparison of well-being levels in different contexts. At the global level, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a framework that promotes targets aimed at eradicating poverty, ensuring quality education, health and well-being, gender equality, and decent work.
In this context, the Maternal and Child Observatory (OMI) recognizes social well-being as a key determinant of maternal and child health, and seeks to generate evidence that helps identify inequities, strengthen public policies, and guide comprehensive interventions that ensure healthier and fairer environments for women, girls, and boys in Mexico.
