Water insecurity

Water insecurity

Prevalence of water insecurity.

Household water insecurity is defined as the inability to access and benefit from affordable, adequate and reliable safe water services to lead a healthy life. The concept captures the multiple dimensions of water acquisition and use in households. Its importance lies in the fact that children under the age of 5 are particularly vulnerable to diseases transmitted through unsafe water and that the risk of diarrhea and infectious diseases is increased.
